The author was born in Lilly, Pennsylvania in 1942, one of five children of Polish-born immigrant parents. His IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOUNTAIN is a memoir that speaks to the experience of immigrant peoples who settled in the eastern coalfields and mill towns during the early part of the twentieth century. It speaks as well to their children and the land which they came to love. This book is mnore than the story of a mountain and its peoples.
