It is based on the May 2006/May 2007 course description published by the College Board, and covers the topics listed there for both Calculus AB and Calculus BC. Candidates who are planning to take the CLEP Examination on Calculus with Elementary Functions are referred to the section of this Introduction on that examination on page 10. Students should be aware that in this book we sometimes do not observe the restrictions cited above on the use of the calculator. In providing explanations for solutions to illustrative examples or to exercises we often exploit the capabilities of the calculator to the fullest. Indeed, students are encouraged to do just that on any question of Section 1, Part B, of the AP examination for which they use a calculator. However, to avoid losing credit, you must carefully observe the restrictions imposed on when and how the calculator may be used in answering questions in Section II of the examination.
