  The Committee believe that biofuels represent the most significant, currently available, fueling method for reducing carbon dioxide emissions and improving energy security in the transport sector. This report considers whether the EU Biofuels Directive is proving effective as a means of increasing their use in road transport. Although some Member States have gone further than others, the current EU targets are not being met and greater, more innovative methods will have to be employed if biofuels are to make a serious impact.
