As with American Literature, we survey the history by surveying its practitioners. Starting in the Middle ages, the time of Beowulf, Geoffrey Chaucer, and Sir Thomas More and sweeping us through to today with the likes of Tom Stoppard and Ruth Prawar Jhahlava. All the major voices of the British Isles are examined with commentary on their style, their art, and their influence on the world. Included is a timeline that places the authors within their society and shows how they reflected it and, more often than not, changed it for all time.
