The purpose of the "Mellen Animal Rights Library" is to bring together scholarly works which cover the whole range of human interaction with animals. A wide variety of disciplines are represented, including those from the sciences as well as the humanities. The first part, a historical list of newly typeset works of many texts now out of print, and the second part contains a contemporary list focusing on theoretical and practical problems. The library includes books written from a variety of viewpoints but preference is given to works which inform the contemporary ethical discussion about the status of animals.
