Kathleen McInnis-Dittrich, Ph. D., ACSW is the author of numerous articles on working with elders specifically in the area of empowerment and women's issues. Her book, Social Work with Elders, Second Edition includes a biopsychosocial approach to working with elders in a more comprehensive array of topics, and could be considered "one stop shopping" for content on gerontological social work. It includes the protocols for both traditional and nontraditional interventions, recognizing the amazing heterogenity of the aging population, and examines important topics such as human behavior in the social environment of elders, spirituality, designing interventions, and diversity regarding gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, and sexual orientation of elders.
