Roberts life had a tragic beginning and a cruel end. He was born with anoxia, causing brain damage and a learning disability. He was raped at age 16, which triggered a sexual deviation.Eventually he got into conflict with the law. In 1966, soon after Megans Law was enacted, he was sentenced as a sexual predator under the statute and served community control probation. The mandated registration requirement with law enforcement authorities and subsequent publication of his photograph and address in the press caused him to lose his job and prevented him from enrolling in a vocational program. A number of vigilante incidents further exacerbated his ability to lead a normal life. In desperation, after being humiliated and marginalized from society, he attempted suicide on a few occasions. At the end of 1997, he disappeared from home and became a fugitive. Robert was found six months later in a ditch, savagely beaten, with a gun wound and the bottom part of this body carbonized. He had just turned 32.
