Let us put on the breast-plate of righteousness that our breast may be protected and safe against the darts of the enemy. Let our feet be shod and armed with the doctrine of the Gospel, that when the serpent begins to be trodden and bruised by us, he may not be able to bite, and overthrow us. Let us manfully bear the shield of faith, that under its protection, whatever the enemy hurls may be quenched. For the covering of our head also let us take the helmet of salvation, that our ears may be protected against hearing the deadly edicts; that our eyes may be protected from seeing the detestable images; the forehead may be protected, so that the sign and seal of God may be preserved; the mouth may be protected, so that the tongue may victoriously confess the Lord its Christ. Let us arm the right hand with the sword of the Spirit, that it may bravely reject the deadly sacrifices; that mindful of the Eucharist, the hand which receives the body of the Lord may embrace the Lord himself, destined hereafter to receive from the Lord the prize of heavenly crowns.
