Students Have Choices When It Comes to High-Priced Textbooks

CampusBooks.com Free Comparison Service Saves Students Money, Up to 58 Percent Back in their Pockets

San Diego, CA - May 12, 2008 -- The high price of textbooks is a topic making the news nationwide. But this summer, college students can relax and toss aside the dread of back-to-school expenses. Despite the rising cost of college tuition and textbooks, campusbooks.com offers students a free service that actually helps them save money with each purchase. CampusBooks lifts the financial burden off students by working for them to find the lowest prices on textbooks.

CampusBooks is a free online comparison service with access to over eight million new and used college textbooks and provides back-to-college shoppers with the most comprehensive search filters for the textbook industry. CampusBooks searches dozens of merchants and hundreds of listings and filters them into one of five categories -- New, Used, eBooks, Rentals and International and provides customers with easy-to-find seller comments, more cost-saving coupons and up-front price summaries.

"The average college student now spends $650 on textbooks each semester," says Alex Neal, President and Founder of CampusBooks.com.  "That's over $4000 added to the cost of college over the course of four years - which is staggering. If we can save students even 20 percent of that cost, we are putting over $800 in their pockets.  It's simple, we offer students a reliable, easy-to-use alternative to high-priced books and bookstores

Industry practices such as bundling and increased marketing costs have driven the costs of textbooks up; leaving students, parents and even professors in the dark about what is actually available when planning their semester. Students are faced with choices to buy workbooks, CDs and other tools bundled together with their textbooks which creates the illusion of savings but actually creates extra costs.

According to U.S. PIRG (Public Interest Research Group), 65 percent of professors acknowledge that they do not use some of these items and, in the end, the add ons make it more difficult to sell back the textbooks. Additionally, with new editions appearing every few years, students are oftened confused about the content and opt to purchase the newer version to be safe, when in reality, the information hardly changes from year-to-year.

"CampusBooks.com is really a tool for our customers," says Neal. "When you visit CampusBooks.com, tell us what you need and we do the shopping for you. We have worked hard to update and improve our site in order to provide the customer with immediate price comparisons and links directing customers to the point of purchase. We even help students with textbook buyback by delivering comparisons between textbook buyback and markeplace prices."

The CampusBooks database includes the book title, author, ISBN, publisher, publish date, format and edition so students can make sure they are buying or selling the correct book. This allows students to have equal footing with major bookstores.
